Reinventing plastic recycling

Fuenix operation

What

About the Fuenix process

Chemical recycling is well-suited to recycle complex and untreated plastic waste that is not recyclable in a mechanical way. It is a new and complementary technique to recycle much more plastic waste than we currently do and upcycle it to high demanding plastic applications like food packaging. The Fuenix technology is

  • Robust: based on proven, easy to operate technologies
  • Efficient: high yields, >80% when in integrated set-up
  • Capex intensity: best in class, <€1,000 per ton product
  • Modular: stand-alone units can be built in modular fashion
  • Scalable: configurable to specific location needs

How

We cracked it. Literally.

Our patented fast pyrolysis technology is a robust, fully continuous process.

  • The Fuenix feeding technology makes solid feeding of untreated feedstocks possible while evenly distributing in the reactor. All this to ensure smooth operation
  • The Fuenix robust reactor setup maximizes the conversion of feedstock into high-value chemicals

This efficient, stand-alone plant design is safe and easy to operate and handles contamination typically found in waste with ease.

Why

The benefits

Plastics are essential in today’s society. While the material has many benefits, there is a negative impact when it becomes waste. Current global plastic production is over 400 million tons per annum of which more than 75% is simply incinerated or ends up in landfills.

Matured solutions exist to process certain types of plastics, however they are not suitable for processing complex plastic streams.

Our fast pyrolysis technology is capable of bringing back virgin-like properties to new recycled plastic.

Fuenix technology will have a large impact on 5 of the UN SDGs

Effective chemical recycling enables circularity for tons of millions of plastic. Tons that are today either incinerated or sent to landfill.

Significantly reduced CO2 emissions.

Decrease of plastic contamination in land and water.

Collaboration

Licensing partnership

Our ambitions are high. In 2035, Fuenix aims to have 250 reactors on their way, to recycle 4 million tons of plastic waste per year. To realise this goal, we are expanding our network of strategic partners.
